Hi Mel,

Cress Marsh is a new mitigation site that has been constructed by North East Lincs Council near the Humber, on the outskirts of Stallingborough village.

Half an hour this afternoon and a distinct lack of variety. Single cormorant, heron, greenshank. About 50 gulls and 12 mallards.
No egrets, sandpipers, avocet or spoonbills, redshank and shelduck.
It seems the tractor has been around the perimeter of the lagoon and maybe this caused some disturbances.

However, one highlight was as approaching the hide a sparrowhawk wheeled up and over the hide and into the field to the right. Sat on the barbed wire fence just before the concealing/wood fence barrier was a spotted flycatcher!

Spent an hour at Cress Marsh this evening (17;30 to 18:30). The water level on the main lagoon is very low and the majority of the scrapes are dry following the spell of hot weather we have been experiencing.

Species recorded during my visit were:

Linnet - a flock of approx 50 birds was set on the wire fence by the path to the hide.
Yellow Wagtail - 1 perched on the power lines that run alongside the path.
Mallard - 14 on the main lagoon
Green Sandpiper - 2 feeding on the edge of the lagoon
Black-headed Gull - 200 counted on the lagoon.
Great Black-backed Gull - 5
Greenshank - a single example feeding at the edge of the lagoon.
Common Gull - 1
Herring Gull
Redshank - 1 dropped onto the lagoon as I walked back to the car from the hide.
Woodpigeon
Carrion Crow
Pheasant
Magpie
Feral Pigeon

All recorded in the hide log book (except Redshank) and entered onto BirdTrack.

Regards

Jon
