Any idea on what might have caused the injury to the heron?

Visited today at dinnertime for an hour. Dead heron level with last pylon on approach to hide on right side, approx mid way between fence and pylon. Possibly heron noticed week ago standing in field with suspected damaged wing. Main lagoon completely empty apart from couple of pied wags skirting the edge. Water level seemed low. Roe deer on island area near factory end and 2 little egrets and single heron on pool in field to right of hide. Couple of buzzards soaring over power station area. No work or workmen anywhere. Only managed few linnet and one wheatear while walking back to car. Large number of swallows over farm near car park area.

Stopped in a Cress Marsh for an hour this afternoon (16:20 - 17:20) on my way home from work. To describe the site as quiet is an understatement, with very little bird activity evident!

Species recorded were:

Woodpigeon
Carrion Crow
Common Sandpiper 1
Grey Heron 2
Linnet 40 - flock observed when walking up to the hide
Pheasant 2
Teal 5
Mallard 1
Ringed Plover 2
Pied Wagtail 1

Jon

Work was still being carried out when I drove past the site just after 5pm. Several mini diggers and rollers in use - looked like the contractors were re-laying part of the path to the hide.

Popped along to Cressy this afternoon hoping to assuage withdrawal symptoms after a weekend at Migfest.
However, there was quite a bit of activity on site.... small machinery and someone appeared to be hand sowing seed along path.. so I guess grass seed is being distributed . Suspect it will take rest of week for task to be completed

No work activities were being carried on site at the time of my visit, however, it was apparent that work installing a new power line pole by the corner of the lagoon (by blue water pipe) still needs to be completed. The tractor was also parked on site.
Despite the lack of disturbance, the site was pretty quiet, with 16 species recorded:

I was there earlier in the afternoon and work was being carried out along the lagoon edge.. The workmen will not be there over the weekend, but will be back on Monday. However, Monday will see them complete the work so the site will be disturbance free from Tuesday onwards.
