The Lincolnshire Bird Club strongly encourages observers to submit records of rare and scarce breeding birds to the county database, even when the species involved are highly sensitive. All confidential breeding records are handled carefully and responsibly, with precise nest locations withheld from public circulation and never published in a way that could place birds at risk from disturbance or persecution. These records are extremely important scientifically, helping to build an accurate picture of the status, distribution and long-term population trends of some of Lincolnshire’s rarest breeding species. The information is also passed, where appropriate, to the Rare Breeding Birds Panel (RBBP), whose work is vital in monitoring the fortunes of scarce breeding birds across the UK. Without the confidential submission of records by observers, it would be impossible to properly assess changes in breeding populations, identify conservation priorities or provide the evidence needed to protect vulnerable species and habitats in the future.
