May 19th: end of day was sad! During late afternoon I heard a bang on back lounge window but took no notice as the pigeons are always hitting them. At 18:00 decided to continue filling compost bin for tomorrow and spotted a tiny bird struggling. It was a female sparrow each time I went to pick it up it wobbled away and tried to nip me, so fetched gloves, from the way it was struggling it had either broken its wing or and leg, wasn't sure what to do so I did a short video of bird and sent it to my mate asking what to do. He agreed it had it window and may be stunned or to badly hurt to recover. At first I thought it would be a meal for the magpie, but my inner self said no. I popped it in a box with some sfh and fat ball hoping it could feed. Two hours later when ready to come in it was still alive so decided to take it in house. I got a small box with shredded paper and placed the bird in it , then put that box in a slightly bigger one and partly shut lid. Thirty minutes later it had righted itself so I stroked it a few minutes and it seemed much calmer, went to check thirty minutes later and it had snuggled down and was nodding off. At least it would be warm and safe from predators and if it does pass away it will know I did everything I could to make its last hours a comfortable one! Daresay some people will think am an old softy but I couldn't give tuppence!
When I get up at dinner it may have passed away or not, will have to see xx

May 9th: Magpie and Wood Pigeon having a set to, surprised the latter was getting the upper hand. Two Common Gull mobbed by a single Jackdaw was funny, (bit like a buzzard mobbing a sea eagle) odds stacked against the jackdaw but it was determined. Spotted this years first House Martins two of them. Starlings - 5 catching flies again. Spuggie's seem more interested in the new fat rolls than the sfh's must be at least 24 back and forth, spotted a pair in cherry tree getting ready to mate. The pair of Wood Pigeon returned. Interesting day!

Considering of late I hardly see any mornings due to excessive sleeping pattern 10 - 14 hrs per day am well pleased to see owt.
May 6th: juv Blackbird in front garden plus male adult on fat ball feeder (never seen this before from a Blackbird and got pic). The woodland birds seem to be returning and others today a chaffinch, greenfinch, 5 Goldfinch, Robin joined the spuggies, magpies, C Doves. The Starlings were overhead catching insects.
May 7th: Magpie landed on lounge windowsill, both Great Tit parents back and forth to nest box, spotted a robin in pond having a bath.
May 8th: While at kitchen window spotted what I thought was a great tit parent come out box but it looked confused, it first went to seed feeder then to fat balls then to field maple then to my windowsill then on window container then on solar light then on to the empty nest box above window all in the space of thirty seconds , when it landed on windowsill could clearly see why it was confused it was juvenile see the world for first time, will keep eye out for the others leaving box.
Regards
John

May 1st: Nice to see a female Greenfinch on the Niger feeder, its right next to the great tit nest box, but neither seem to mind. The pair of tits were joined by other pairs of Wood Pigeon, Collared Dove, Feral Pigeon.
May 2nd: One Magpie seen and next day both. Great Tits taking food in nest box regular. BUT someones black and white cat has been sitting below the nest box listening I expect, it got a blast of water. Not been back since but it will.
