This year (2022) has been good with excellent numbers towards end of the last months. One new garden tick Redwing and one new over garden tick Cormorant. Anything that comes in or over the garden is a bonus.

Nothing counted on 15th & 16th I was too busy keeping warm in me chair due to C/H conking out, was wrapped in umpteen layers with hot water bottles etc, thankfully engineer came Friday afternoon.
Saturday was a good day with 17 species including a single Redwing and a Song Thrush (a rare visitor) the former stayed about two minutes but the latter stayed till dark, it was on the Hawthorn, Rowan and Cherry berries. Total amount of birds was 93.
Today I put a new feeder out, one of those squirrel proof cages, never had one before, but it hadn't been out a minute when a goldfinch had a look, then five more came and it was like that till 2pm they emptied it! Took a pic and video. Not sure if I can upload a video. 18 species = 124 birds today.
Today's birds:
Song Thrush here from 11:00 till 15:00
Starling - c30
Blackbird - 6
Goldfinch - 17
Spuggies - c30
Chaffinch - 4 (two with that white stuff on legs)
Blue Tit - 3
Great Tit - 2
Coal Tit
Greenfinch - 4
Crow
Jackdaw
Magpie
Dunnock
Feral Pigeon - 19
Wood Pigeon - 2
Common Gull - 4
Robin
An excellent weekend with last bird visiting the Robin.

Yesterday saw a Chaffinch with its feet and legs completely covered in the white stuff like have been seeing now and then, but it didn't stop it feeding and holding its own with the other birds on the ground. On Dec 10th had 13 species and total of 92 birds, the Redwing didn't return. Same number of species on the 11th and 76 birds. Didn't record any on the 12th as I wasn't well. On the 13th had 16 species but didn't count total. On Dec 14th had 10 species and again no total.
The Blackbirds have almost stripped two of the hawthorns, the cherry is almost stripped but still plenty on but the Blackbirds having difficulty getting them. Most of the birds were picking up berries off the ground, maybe softer and not frozen. I put some apples out for them and the birds were enjoying the change of fruit, the Blackbirds have reduced in number now down to six from 12-15. Having more Starlings each day feeding on fat balls, nuts and apples. The feral pigeons are becoming a nuisance again! Numbers increasing to a dozen but there must be at least two dozen flying about all day.

Pleased am getting up hours earlier than my old ways. Today had a new garden tick at 08:40 and managed to get a few pics for the record a single Redwing
it was far end of back garden on the conifer, then it joined some Blackbirds on the rowan, didn't spot it again, hoping it tells its mates and comes back tomorrow. Also had a new record of Blackbirds in one day, previously it stood at nine, today had fifteen. Today had 17 species with a total of 95 birds give or take a few.
The Blackbirds have been on the cherry mostly this week with a few on the hawthorns but today quite a few have been getting the berries on the rowan and having some apples I put out for the Blackcap last week which it didn't have.
Very enjoyable day!
