A few months ago I reported on here I'd found a "injured" house sparrow, cared for it overnight and then released it next day. Watched Autumnwatch over weekend and especially the section about the avian flu, after seeing how the birds were suffering am now of the opinion the sparrow was acting in same way but could be wrong.
Thinking on the thread that Ray put up about the lack of birds in his garden and others, I tried to be as positive as possible with my comments, but what I didn't say was that there has been a distinct lack of Greenfinch and Chaffinch last few months. Certainly, no lack of sparrows (I never see any on the Latest Sightings board okay they are just a wee bird that most birders wouldn't even put down in their notebook, but I enjoy seeing the three dozen I get every day).
Although of late I rarely get up before 2pm due to extreme tiredness I only see the birds for a few short hours every day but tomorrow got to be up at 6am so hoping to see more than usual, if I can get up that is, going to Leeds and transport booked so I will get rollicking if not ready!!

Yesterday afternoon spotted a male Sprawk perched next to large fat ball feeder in Holly tree right next to dining room window, I waited a moment or three to see what happened, nowt, so I went to window and say hi
it then scarpered.

Re the Blackbirds: A few people were saying on South Lincs Birding (Facebook) that the birds were in short supply whereas a couple of people said they had quite a few taking the berrys. I mentioned the situation in North Lincs. Oddly on Friday evening as I was closing curtains one came into front garden cherry tree (not sure if it brought a light with it) , for those wondering how I knew it was a Blackbird, it sung out as it landed

I have many things from my childhood but the water pistol wasn't, it's one I made out of an old sprayer for house plants, it shot up to 20' which is enough to scare the squirrel and the pigeons lol.

Jim,
I have seen Woodpigeons eating Hawthorn berries as long as I can remember! My wife and I walked on the old railway line between Stixwould and Kirkstead yesterday and the many hawthorn bushes beside the path were absolutely laden with berries. Fieldfares and Redwings have already arrived in the UK so I think your theory does not hold water!

Re the water pistol.
Have you had it since you were a lad? Did you buy it from Woolworths?
