Well Stuart I am not on the Committee but I will am connected in some ways as I compile the latest sightings which are on the front page and also each month i create an excel spreadsheet from the records from sightings which members put in to the Forum
As I spent the time compiling this spreadsheet my mind drifts off - thinking there must be a better way but never coming up with one. The sightings are few and far between (but take me hours to type) on the Forum and often days after the event. I would think that the members using this for their records can be counted on the fingers of two hands. Mostly entered by members who are not inclined to use new technology or social media (but not exclusively so).
Nowadays most records come from other means as is evidenced by the excellent Annual Bird Report. Me personally, I use BirdTrack on my phone. The record is created in seconds, submitted to the BTO who then forward it to the County Recorded. Virtually instantly with no hassle. If you are a follower of someone who uses these modern methods you will get a beep on your phone giving you instant notification of their sightings and they would too if they were following me. Nothing on the Forum compares to that unfortunately
Well over 200 lists of records by me this year of my Sightings. Never in my time as a member did I post 100 reports on the Forum and doubt anybody else did either
The Forum isn't totally moribund yet as there is still the odd twitch left in the body

On the previous Forum I made comment on how few records were submitted via the Forum. I have just gone through the last three months in which only one record (from Woodhall Spa) was from south of Market Rasen! If it wasn't for Messingham, Cress Marshes, Cleethorpes, a Scunthorpe garden and North Somercotes there wouldn't be any records! Are there any birdwatchers in the south of the County?
As it stands the vast majority of the members do not submit data via the Forum - if this is the case, is it obsolete? Comments from the Chairman and Committee would be appreciated - assuming they occasionally look at the Forum.
Yes I remember you doing it and if my memory serves me well you got next to know replies. Why can't the chairman or assistant chairman take the time to answer your and sometimes others questions instead of leaving it to Jim or Russ to do it?
This past few weeks have been thinking where have the regulars most on holidays as there is next to know reports on the forum, if it wasn't for myself and Alan this past week there would have been no reports be it birds etc.
I sent a message a couple of weeks ago to one of the forum asking if they had stopped coming on forum or were they ill, but they didn't reply.
I don't go to my local patch as often as I would like as am not always well enough or the weather is rubbish BUT at least I put posts on from MY GARDEN which I enjoy doing but sometimes wonder if some of the forum members are interested, I know those who are as I take particular notice.
On the old forum we got members posting from lots of places like Kirkby Moor and Gravel Pits, Deeping area, Marston Sewage Works, North Killingholme, Far Ings and the Pits, Epworth Turbary, Trent Port and loads of places but it's rare to hear from any of these nowadays unless I look on Twitter.
Unless something changes I can hear the death knell sounding, the forum has had its day sadly. HOPE AM WRONG, FOR ME IT WOULD BE A SAD DAY IF IT CLOSED.
Other than Jim mentioning the forum at one of LBC committee meetings last year , it very rarely gets a mention at them.
Kind regards
John
PS: I worked out either this or last year that out of the 600+ members only one and half per cent posted on the forum, that says a lot in my book. And a very large part of those 600+ members had never posted at all!
I have noticed that next to no one posts anything from Lincs on the big birdforum and they have 100k members worldwide.
