I'm sorry my comments made you feel ill John but I believe you have missed my point.  It is solely about the lack of use of the Forum, not Chris's excellent sightings or any other section of the Lincolnshire Bird Club website.  As you say yourself there are only a handful of observers who enter discussions on the Forum and all are from the north of the "old" Lincolnshire.  That is the point I tried to make.

Stuart,

Maybe I should have used more punctuation.  Your comments didn't make me ill Stuart but they did annoy me.
The forum seems to have gathered pace since my absence especially the Bird Sighting section but next to nothing from the south but for me that's not a problem.
As long as the forum ticks over that will suit me.

By way of comparison, this how they do things in Shetland. Fairly similar to us, though our forum also provides an opportunity to elaborate and reveals the identity of the observer

The main complaint of people involved in this thread is that people are not using the Forum. Nine only last month. Virtually dead indeed and will be if people stop using it

There is nothing wrong with your methods Alan. All your records and mine using BirdTrack go directly to Phil Hyde the County Recorder from BirdTrack. All I would say against BirdTrack is that other members don't see our submissions until they surface in the Annual Report. Hence reading the bird report last week being surprised by what was actually seen in Lincs during 2021

The way most people use to get news out quickly is by using Twitter on your phone or computer. Free and easy to use and virtually instantaneous.

The WhatsApp Lincs rarity group is another way which news gets put out instantaneously but that is for rarities alone and again you have to join (don't ask me how - it'll be on the Forum somewhere). Any sightings on there I usually put on the latest news (so there there is a usually a delay of several hours for those who have not joined the group)

There will be other ways too

I hope that helps

As you know, I always record on the forum and bird track. I have no idea how or where to record elsewhere, which other recording methood would make life easier for you and how do I do it? Still would do the others as well.

Below is the database for all sightings made by me from records on the Forum during the month of July excluding those made by Alan Hudson and Jon Drakes as their records go to the County Recorder direct from the BTO's Bird Track. I haven't used the information from an undisclosed area either

I know that July isn't the most productive part of the year - made much worse this year by endless periods of wet and windy weather

Just seven people had records that were used as you can see

Only the more interesting observations are used (when I don't miss it) in the latest news section. Records for that come from Facebook, Twitter,  What's App, word of mouth or any other source where I find something of interest. I think this is where  90% of the sightings come from and some of that information also comes from non members. For your information it is where our female members usually record their information.

Many members send their sightings directly to the County Recorder so their is a good chance most of us will not know about a sighting for several days, several weeks or even when it finally appears in the Annual Report

You will notice that my name seldom appears on the Forum. I just find it takes enough time out of my day recording electronically with repeating it on here. Nearly sixty records yesterday including Black Tern, Barn Owl, Black-winged Stilt, Spotted Redshank. Spoonbill. You will not find my name associated with them. But at least two others have recorded and also posted photographs even before I had my evening meal. Some don't mind doing it both ways but it is always the electronic version that is noticed immediately

If you want to use the Forum then by all means do so but please don't bellyache if others decide there is a better way
