Weather: Sun with showers, cool, strong SW wind
Time on site: 15:15-16:15

Following the recent period of wet weather, most of the scrapes on site now hold some water.

Species recorded during this afternoon's visit:

Common Sandpiper    1 - on first scrape on right hand side of path as you walk towards the hide.
Gadwall    6 - all on the "field" scrapes
Goldfinch    15 - feeding on Thistle seeds along the main path
Herring Gull    3 - on the lagoon. Gulls back on site!
Little Egret    3 - feeding around the "field" scrapes
Little Grebe    7 - all on the lagoon
Magpie    2
Mallard    5 - on the lagoon
Mute Swan    20 - on the lagoon
Pheasant    1
Pied Wagtail    1
Pochard    2 - on the lagoon
Shoveler    2 - on the lagoon
Stock Dove    1
Teal    12 - flock flew over the site heading towards Immingham.
Wheatear    1 - on island in the lagoon. My first one this autumn at Cress Marsh
Wigeon    11 - all on the "field" scrapes.
Woodpigeon    6
Roe Deer    2

Buzzard    3
Carrion Crow    3
Gadwall    3  on lagoon
Goldfinch    c25 feeding on Thistle seeds along the main path
Little Egret    3 on field scrapes
Little Grebe    7 on lagoon
Magpie    2
Mallard    5 on lagoon
Mute Swan    10 all on lagoon
Peregrine    1 flying along the railway line
Pheasant    4
Pink-footed Goose    130 flying over site, heading in SE direction.
Shoveler    18 all on lagoon
Swallow    4 feeding over the pylon scrapes
Teal    84 on several scrapes around the site
Roe Deer    2

Time on site: 12:00-14:10

Very quiet at Cress Marsh this afternoon, with only a few birds on site. The lagoon islands have now been cleared of dense vegetation and it is now possible to once again see all of the way across the lagoon from the hide. Species noted during my visit:

Buzzard    2 - soaring over the wood at the back of the site
Carrion Crow    5
Goldfinch    6 - feeding on Thistle seeds along the main path
Kestrel    1 - flew over site
Linnet    c40 
Little Egret    3
Little Grebe    7 - all on the lagoon
Magpie    1
Mallard    2
Mute Swan    18 - all on the lagoon
Peregrine    1 - made several low flights over the site.
Pheasant    1
Snipe    2 - both on one of the lagoon islands.
Sparrowhawk    1 - flew over site.
Stock Dove    1
Teal    1
Tufted Duck    5 - all on lagoon
Woodpigeon    8
Yellowhammer    6 - all perched in Hawthorn bush along the main path.

I would be giving Cress a miss for the next few days folks. Workers on the scrapes/islands removing all the weeds etc. In anticipation of winter visitors I assume. Apart from a few swans and ducks on the back path areas, not a jot on the main lagoon really.
Paul, your eyepiece is on the shelf near the door now.
