This will be long-winded so will have to do it in parts.

TREES & SHRUBS in front garden: it measures about 30' x 12' in an L-shape but is stacked full:
Ivy on fence and wire netting, high privet hedge with at mo a Blackbird nest with at least one juv, Hypericum/potentilla - 3, Buddleia - 3, Periwinkle, Elder, Flowering Cherries - 2, Cotoneaster, Spirea - 3, Clematis, Holly, Pyracantha, Viburnum, Hollyhock, Honeysuckle, Forsythia and lots of flowers all year.

Driveway: Buddleia - 2, Cotoneaster, Lilacs, Ivy and flowers.

Forgot to add Jasmine, Fennel and Lavender.

Regards

John

April 1st: Brambling - 1m 1f both seen in morning.
April 2nd: Brambling - 1m 2f both seen on the Goat Willow they seem not to like the feeder, much prefer the Rowan one.
April 3rd: Brambling - 1m 1f
April 4th: Brambling - 1m 2f both seen in morning
April 5th: Brambling - 1m 1f
April 6th: Brambling - 3m 1f saw the three males at same time on the Rowan feeders and the female on the Magnolia feeder, double checked with scope the males. Watched a pair of Blue Tit taking feathers in the new bird box in the cherry tree.
April 7th: Brambling - 3m 1f again the males prefer the Rowan and the female the Magnolia, she did try a few times to attempt getting seeds from the rowan but one of males chased her off, either that or he fancied her ;) The Bluey's are still taking material in the box. Also had a pair of Magpie visit the Goat Willow last two days with one trying to get some small twigs, there are more than plenty scattered all over the back garden.

Still good numbers of all the other birds that use the 17 feeders (recently added two more) with a Jackdaw now coming, Collared Doves are now down to a couple.

Have crocked me back and chest trying to move me old bed three inches so holding the bins is painful but worth it to see the Brambles every day!!

Cheers

John

I am going to list the species of trees/shrubs in my back/front gardens and put them on here, for the benefit of those who may be interested, I always did similar on the old forum and Lincsbirders.

Well they was here all last week and still here today that's 60 days without a break.

March 27th: Brambling - 1m 1f
March 28th: Brambling - 1m 1f
March 29th: Brambling - 1m 1f also found Blackbird on nest in front garden hedge, Dunnock - 4 lots of displaying, spotted a pair of Greenfinch top of second hawthorn just before dusk, the female was flapping wings like a juvenile would and the male was feeding her.
March 30th: Brambling - 1f. Spotted two Blue Tit going in and out the new bird box in cherry tree, but also saw Great Tit bring a lump of moss out, so could be problems lol. At 16:45 the best part of 25 Greenfinch came and raided the feeders, the other birds were all bulleid off, thankfully this only lasted about half an hour. Found four nests in the hedge behind garage, not sure what sort.
March 31st: Brambling - 1m 2f pics and video taken today and most other days.

Regards

John

March 17th: Brambling - 1m 1f
March 18th: Brambling - 1m 1f , while in garden the male Sprawk flew diagonally through at head height, wow! Five Blackbird with four after the female, a few minutes later three males returned and had a scrap, no winners.
March 19th: Brambling - 1m 2f , female Blackbird building nest behind garage in privet hedge, return of Robin :)
March 20th: Brambling - 1m 2f it's now SEVEN weeks that they have come every day, showed my birding mate today but only one appeared lol, luck of draw.
March 21st: Brambling - 1m 1f as much as I tried couldn't get two females together, daresay all three are here every day

I have noticed these past months something a researcher from WWT told me back in 1999 when I first started out doing surveys, at first I thought he was pulling my leg, but in time found he wasn't and it certainly is true this year, that the birds stop feeding between 11:00 to 13:00 .

Cheers
