Today (5th) was my birthday and it was also two months almost to the day since I was well enough to venture out so decided to celebrate in my own way by going to Barton & Bonby Carrs.
On way along A15 had a Buzzard.
Barton: strong wind coming off Humber and cool with it, despite no wind at home and warm. A well known birder came along and we had a wee chat, he carried on and I hoped to see an Harbour Porpoise but nowt.
Following seen either at Far Ings or close by:
Mute Swan
Mallard
Spuggies
Black-headed Gull
Crow
Rook
Common Tern
Hobby
Horkstow Road via Wolds:
Swift - 2
House Martin - 3
Bonby Carrs:
Buzzard - 1
Mallard - 15
Yellowhammer - 3
Crow - 2
Marsh Harrier - one male seen several times ( pics )
Linnet - 5
Lapwing - 5 ( the harrier kept flying over and the adults were giving it hell)
Wood Pigeon - 4
Rook - 3
Reed Bunting - 2 male
Skylark - 1
Common Gull - 1
Common Whitethroat - 4
Kestrel - 1
Starling - 40
Chaffinch - one pair
Was there five hours and enjoyed every minute especially the cakes, biscuits and flask of tea plus the appearance of the male Harrier.
Looking forward to next trip when ready.
Regards
John aka Max![:) :)]()
PS: had intended going to Ness Hide to hopefully see the Kingfisher and Bittern, I'd taken the trolley/seat but when I saw how far the walk was decided to give it a miss, think I may have got there but not back and didn't fancy an overnight sleep in the hide!
