Assuming it gets the planning go-ahead, the project has great potential. But, with limited resources, it will be a challenge for the council to manage it effectively. It would be an opportunity missed if it were to fall into neglect or revert solely to an area for dog-owners to exercise their pets. It might be helpful for a management group to be set up, perhaps with representation from the LBC and Grimsby RSPB. In the meantime, thanks for your comment, James - it’s good that someone from the club is keen to maintain a watching brief if only (at this stage) on an informal, occasional basis.

Thanks for putting details on here Jim, especially as I didn't know about it. Very interesting to me as backs on property owned by friends so might become a new patch for me.

More details have been released about the proposed new wader lagoons/hide project that is proposed for a site at Stallingborough, near Grimsby.

North East Lincolnshire Council is inviting comments from the public (including birders) in advance of making a decision - probably next month - on whether to grant planning permission.

Many LBC members (especially those familiar with places like RSPB Frampton Marsh) will probably be able to offer specialist expertise, so the more supporting comments that are submitted the better.

Assuming the application is approved, my understanding is that NELC will be responsible for managing the reserve (with oversight from Natural England).

However, who knows,it is possible there could be a role for LBC if members feel this might be appropriate.

Full details of the Cress Marsh nature reserve proposal are at:

It is worth checking the page regularly because there are likely to be more submissions (from various sources) over the next three weeks.
