Passing the site of the proposed wader lagoons on my way home from work this afternoon, I notice that there are now a number of large diggers on the land, as well as a "contractor's" compound. A number of contractor's vans were also parked on the site.
I believe work may have commenced!

Good news, the application was today given formal planning permission by North East Lincolnshire Council.

Good to see that the Environment Agency last week withdrew its objection.

Thanks Jim,
I emailed Martin Vickers a few days ago and received a reply yesterday. He was unaware of the plans but is very much in favour, and will express his support when he meets with the Council”s Cheif Exec tomorrow.

Thanks for your message, Joy
Since I last posted on this subject, some further material has been posted on the relevant planning website. See link above.
I’m all in favour of lobbying, even if only to fly the flag for birdlife
Even though he was formerly a portfolio holder for the environment on NELC, I don’t recall Martin Vickers ever speaking up for the natural world.
None of the three councillors for this ward is a member of the planning committee.
There is also a possibility that they might support those residents who object to the proposal for fear of flooding hazard.
However, the odds are that the scheme will get the green light because of Natural England’s insistence that mitigation habitat must be provided to compensate for wader-friendly land that will be sacrificed to make way for nearby industrial development.
The application will be determined either by the planning committee or by senior case officer Lauren Birkwood under delegated powers.
So the answer is yes - it might well be worth lobbying.
I plan to fire off a few emails later this week with a view a) to clarifying if there is a target date for a decision and b) to state that LBC is supportive of the proposal and has members keen to help with monitoring the nature reserve in the event that it gets the planning green light.
