It’s always exciting to see new birds in the garden. Each year you never know what the highlights are going to be. Our highlights this year have been a Spotted Flycatcher on 1st. Sept, Woodcock 9th. Nov, and Firecrest on 3rd. Dec. which brought our 2020 garden total to 56.
Who knows what next year will bring!
Happy new year everyone
Regards Pete

So nice to hear someone with same sentiments Max , I’m still waiting for my goldcrest as he stayed for 3 months last time. The birds have certainly kept our sanity this last year and we’ll worth the cost of all that feed . Best Wishes all Adi

Yesterday had got bored of watching TV, bored of watching 100s of YT videos, bored of doing the same thing every day while staying away from people and shielding from the Pandemic!
Then while watching the birds through binos I suddenly felt a massive relief and got excited, why, well for one thing a male Sprawk passed very low no more than 6' above garden darting in and out the trees, but left empty-handed. Then while watching all the other birds a while later spotted the one bird I've been hoping to see again for months, the Goldcrest among the Blue Tits in the conifer![:) :)]()
Final list of this year unless summat special calls later today:
Sprawk
Goldcrest
Blue Tit - 8
Great Tit - 2
Coal Tit
Chaffinches
Greenfinches
Goldfinches
Spuggies
Starlings
Common Gull - 2
C Dove
Wood Pigeon - 2
Feral Pigeon - c30
Blackbird - 3 (2m).
A brill day to put me in right frame of mind for next year and to carry on the fight to stay put!
A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR + STAY SAFE and TAKE CARE TO YOU ALL!
Kind Regards
John aka Max

Today watched a sad sight of a male Spuggy trying to feed under the large holly tree, it was trying to pick up bits that had dropped from the fat ball feeder. At first it looked as if it was drunk and kept toppling over, never seen this before maybe others have. I got my camera and did a 40 sec video of it from the dining room window. I took it a few sfh and mealworms of which it started eating the former, it really was a sad sight more so because I'm used to seeing dozens of Spuggy's in front garden rather than an odd one who is sick. A Robin came and bullied it before I'd put the extra food out but it flew to where I usually put mealworms out for it and the male Blackbird. Last I saw of the Spuggy was going for a drink then it disappeared but didn't see it fly off. Will have to do a bit of research.

While filling feeders (at Midday) in back garden heard the familiar tone of honk, looked up and a V-formation of 40 PFG was high going south, made my day or so I thought till 15:00 when I was checking back garden sky and spotted a Kestrel hovering near school, now that did make my day and week! Not seen one for quite sometime.
