If Labour regain Great Grimsby from the Conservatives at the next General Election, the canine lobby will have a powerful new voice in Westminster - their candidate, Melanie Onn,  is dog-crazy.

I have to say her own pet, Misty (which has just had pups), is an attractive-looking creature.

I just hope she won't take it to Cleethorpes beach to chase the shorebirds to distraction.

Agreed Nick.
It may be worth knowing that disturbance at Tetney (and anywhere else along the Humber) can be reported to Humber Nature Partnership. These reports can exert political pressure as has already happened with the issue of jet skis and paragliders.

I might upset a few people with this, but I for one think that we're being over run with dogs now. There appears no place that dogs cannot go. It seems every cafe wants to be dog friendly, every park or public space and woods seem to be a magnet for dogs and their owners. Now, I have had dogs when I was younger, and don't mind dogs per say... but it would be nice to be able to have areas that dogs were not permitted. I know Far Ings has banned dogs, and also that Gibralter point has since stopped dogs being allowed in the visitor centre. I think we are at a stage when dogs and their owners need policing, and more regulations put in place to better control owners who seem to think the existing rules don't apply to them.

Extract from North East Lincolnshire Council's holiday guide:

"Holidays and days out should include all members of the family, especially those four-legged ones, and North East Lincolnshire is a great place to spend some quality time.

"Rest your weary paws at one of our many dog-friendly places to stay.

"From quality hotels, which go the extra mile for you and your pooch, to boutique bed-and-breakfast accommodation, coastal cottages, caravans and camp sites, you'll be be sure to find something to suit your budget and needs

."Whether it is exploring our beautiful beaches in Cleethorpes or walking in our parks and woodlands, you are sure to find the perfect route for walkies that please both you and your pooch."If your pooch loves the beach, you will be glad to hear they are most welcome on our beaches throughout the year.

"There are restrictions in place during the key tourism season, but not everywhere.

"Your lovable hound can still feel the sand between his toes on our south end beaches from Cleethorpes Leisure Centre towards Humberston Fitties all year round."
