Black-winged Kite Breeds in Denmark and Hungary for the First Time
The elegant Black-winged Kite has achieved a remarkable milestone this year, with confirmed breeding records in both Denmark and Hungary for the very first time. These events mark a significant step in the species’ ongoing northward and eastward expansion across Europe.

I would like to begin my report by firstly saying a big thank you to Richard Doan, the site Warden, for hosting us and giving up his time to lead both the walks. Also to the cafeteria staff for preparing a delicious buffet supper, and lastly to all the club members who attended the event - all 16 places on both walks were filled and the buffet was fully booked as well, so very many thanks to all for your support. It was good to welcome some new faces and to renew acquaintance with some of the longest standing and most experienced county birders.

Congratulations to Sutton-on-Sea Beachcare, winners of the Lincolnshire Environmental Awards 2025.
The Lincolnshire Environmental Awards final took place at Whisby Education Centre on 27 September, where Sutton-on-Sea Beachcare, Humber Wild and the Together Initiative presented their inspiring projects. Sutton-on-Sea Beachcare was named overall winner, with judges praising the group’s growing reach and dedication to highlighting marine wildlife.

UK’s oldest Eurasian Oystercatchers found on The Lincolnshire Wash
Two Eurasian Oystercatchers that have outlived the species’ average lifespan by three decades have been recorded by the Wash Wader Research Group (WWRG), twice breaking longevity records for the species in the UK. 'I he first, discovered in February 2025 at Snettisham in Norfolk, was estimated to be 41 years and eight months old - it had been ringed as a chick at Kelling Quags in Norfolk in 1983.

Rare Collared Pratincole Draws Birders to Frampton Marsh
Frampton Marsh RSPB Reserve played host to a rare visitor in late June, when a Collared Pratincole was discovered by visiting birder Mathew Mellor on 22nd June 2025.

AviList – uniting all of the world’s bird species
AviList was published on June 11th 2025 after 4 years of work by experts in taxonomy, nomenclature, and bioinformatics and included researchers from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, American Ornithological Society, BirdLife International, International Ornithologists’ Union, and Avibase.
