I rang Far Ings visitor centre about a month ago and left a message asking if they would like 18 wildlife mostly birding books all in good to excellent condition free from my pal who is downsizing his book collection.  But no one rang back. I'll try again and then if ncd I'll contact LWT again asking if anyone else would like them.

Finally got all books cataloged and put in two piles, one is books which are valued at ten pounds or less, other pile above that price.

Will donate the lesser priced ones to LWT (if they still have a shop/s)  as no one on LBC are interested.

Although none of books are mine I have permission to donate or sell as I think fit.

John

As I said in text I have no ideas how eBay works but on your advice I've made a start reading the "rules" went on Martin Lewis site and started reading what he says. I have enough to worry about lately not sure I can or want to read reams of stuff on how to suss out this popular site!
have only been to an auction once at Brigg and I bought a ford mustang fastback in 1997 ish and since then its trebled in value, the box is likely to be worth as much as car lol.

Often on Ebay it wil be a ' Buy it now ' price which are usually not in the real world ! A better indicator is if one sells as an auction item instead where people will bid for what they feel it is worth. Usually there is a huge difference in this.

Am puzzled as to why the book by Eric Simms - British Larks, Pipits and Wagtails commands such a high price, Amazon have it up to £550 and eBay £350? Am sure there must be someone out there who can tell me.

Hi Pete,
Sorry that isn't here, wish it had for you. Got three-quarters logged. Going by Google and the likes of the companies who sell used bird/wildlife books the one that would cost the most is British Larks, Pipits and Wagtails by E. Simm 1992 is commanding as much as £550 on one site, phew, think Ed would get a big shock, this copy is in immaculate condition. One book which I thought would at least fetch its cover price of £25 is only fetching a fraction Bird's of Europe by Lars Jonsson.

I'll name some of the books maybe someone just starting out may be interested:
The Common Tern by Rob Hume Paperback 1993 excellent condition.
Birds of Menorca by Raul Escandell Hardback 1994   excellent condition.
The Crows by Franklin Coombs Hardback 1978 Excellent condition.
Birds of Prey A 'Survival' Book by Philip Brown Hardback 1976 Very good condition.
The Whooping Crane by Faith McNulty Hardback 1967 Good Condition.
The Macmillan Field Guide to Bird Identification by Alan Harris, Laurel Tucker & Keith Vinicombe Hardback 1989 Excellent Condition.
Shorebirds - An Identification guide to the Waders of the World by Peter Hayman, John Marchant & Tony Prater Hardback 1991 Immaculate Condition.

Almost all the books have receipts from when they were purchased.

Will put some more down another time.

Regards
