Another sterling effort, and as you say, lets hope more return next year.

Andy has just ringed the last brood of Sand Martins for 2023.  The total of nestlings ringed in 2023 is 193, almost 100 less than last year.  Let's hope the number of breeding pairs increases in 2024.

It has been another successful year at the artificial site.  There have been two broods in most of the holes and a total of 285 nestlings have been ringed in 2022.  We have just received notification that two siblings ringed in July were caught together at Icklesham, Sussex on 24th August!!

Andy ringed the first 43 nestlings at the weekend.  Hopefully a team are going to catch the adults next weekend to collate some re-trap data of returning breeders.

Quick update.  Andy Chappell checked the artificial bank yesterday.  32 out of 36 holes now excavated and five nests have been started in the nest chambers.

A further update which show the value of ringing nestlings.  We have been notified of two which have been retrapped elsewhere:
Ringed on 30/5/2021 and recaught 28 days later at Nanjizal, Lands End some 528km SW.
Ringed on 1/8/2021 and recaught 25 days later near Honfleur, Seine-Maritime, France some 437km S.  This is the first nestling which has been re-trapped abroad since the project started!
