An update for the 2025 season. Andy Chappell has handed over the management of the project to Harry West. The season started slowly with only 9 of the holes occupied. 25 adults were ringed or re-trapped on 8th June and 47 nestlings have been ringed so far. Harry checked this morning and there are quite a few more holes occupied - there are currently 68 young or eggs and a lot more adults about.

Thanks Stuart, I read the article in the 2020 LBR and I'm impressed with what you're all doing. A lot of interesting and important data is coming from the site and hopefully more will come in future years. Will you need a bigger wall in the future?

I have already written an article for the LBC Annual Report a couple of years ago. I am currently away but will respond in more detail at the weekend .

It's a really interesting project, and raises so many questions. You should write a post in the newsletter, for instance, what is the oldest bird you've controlled, average age, are you going to need a bigger wall?
198 still seems a big total but two thirds of the best year of 298, is the mortality rate less or more than the returning rate?

Thanks, Pete. Since we built the artificial nest site in 2016, 1,760 nestling Sand Martins have been ringed. The most in any one year has been 298.
