The Great Northern Diver wintering at Covenham Reservoir has been taken into care after getting its bill, neck and wings tangled in what looks like baler twine. It was first spotted in trouble by Chris Atkin on Wednesday but was too strong to get near. Keith Robinson called me today having seen it crawl up the bank. I put out a request for help  on the Louth Birds WhatsApp group  and Owen Beaumont asked his partner Alex Masterman who to help. She did a great job and skilfully netted the Diver, assisted by yours truly. It was weak and bleeding and has been taken to Animal Gardens , Mablethorpe. Hopefully it can be released back on the Res in the next few days when it has recovered after some care and rehabilitation.
