There has been alot of resurch into this over the years and the overwhelming consensus is no but with a few exceptions. Although not quite the exceptions you think... Red-winged Blackbird in America for example was found to have a much higher reproductive success when coulor ringed with up to twice the number of females than unringed birds. Of course where it is found coulor ringing effects natural behaviour it should be stopped in that speices.

Are birds disadvantaged when they are colour-marked? For instance, are they shunned by other members of the same species?
Do we risk exploiting birdlife to satisfy our own scientific curiosity?

It was near the Buck beck outflow yesterday morning, which must be a favoured spot considering about two years ago I found a similar bird that had been ringed in France two years previously.
