Hi Gary
I went last year and if you have a smart phone, you can download some of the guides in app form.
East African Birds
Bird of Africa
Roberts Bird Guide
ebird
Kingdon Mammals of Africa
Sasol birds of southern africa is also good but covers the area to the south of
All of the above worth downloading and looking at. Makes it easier in the field to just refer to the phone and have a couple of books to refer to when you have more time back at the Lodge/hotel.
Hope that helps

According to the Guide to the Identification and ageing of Holarctic Waders, the range of bill length for sub species brittanica is: Male 37.0 - 44.5mm and Female 40 - 44mm. These measurements are taken from the anterior edge of the nostril opening to the bill tip. Hope that helps and I hope you enjoy Nicholas Drayson's novel!!

It turns out that "A guide to the birds of East Africa" is a love story by Nicholas Drayson!!
Stuart - As a ringer, could you tell me the bill length of a Redshank!? I am trying to ID a deceased bird!
