On the subject of Burgh-le-Marsh, it's in the sightline, over The Wash, of Sandringham.
Has it ever, in recent times, had any Royal visitors? I recall reading somewhere that the Queen Mother once donated a handbag to a charity raffle/ auction in the village (or town as it now is).
Do you have any recollections, John, of the North Sea Surge of 1953?

As Burgh le Marsh was a village at that time the primary school had barely 35 pupils Stuart
I cannot remember the details of the bibles given to each pupil but perhaps the fact the head and 2 assistant teachers
were all females was of significance , we had to attend the local church during school once a week , and prayers were said before lunch
which was basic often local food as there was still rationing of various foods and fruits .
Regards John

The Queen was patron of the RSPB.My first thought was that, given his concern for the welfare of the environment, King Charles III might be approached to fill the role, but he has indicated that he will need to reduce his charitable activities.Furthermore, he is patron of a shooting organisation - the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust. Some say the RSPB would be less compromised/inhibited - for instance, in its policy on grouse-shooting - if it dropped the ‘Royal’ from its title.Time will tell.

I've never been a royalist and have not got much time for any of them. However, the alternative is worse and I think Charles does genuinely care about the natural world and conservation, more than any president I've ever seen. So let's hope he can exert some influence on government policies. (I still haven't forgotten William and Harry allegedly shooting Hen Harriers when they were younger, which although illegal was politically kicked into touch.)

We are of a similar age, John but your school appears to be more affluent than mine! At Halton Holegate Primary we only got a commemorative mug!
