The reserve supports a rich diversity of plant species and outstanding populations of breeding and wintering birds.  It is located close to the City of York and stretches 12miles along the River Derwent and Pocklington Canal. Describing the Lower Derwent Valley as a unique historic landscape, Natural England’s Senior National Nature Reserve Manager, Craig Ralston believes the site to be of international significance.  This promises to be a fascinating and informative presentation. Our talks are open to everybody: you do not need to be a member of the RSPB to attend and we look forward to welcoming you.Entry is £4, payable at the door.Light refreshments and a raffle will be available. Obviously, measures will be taken to reduce the risk of spreading the Covid virus, and you should not attend if you are exhibiting symptoms of the virus, or have been in close contact with somebody known to have the virus.
Our next shared Car Trip will be on Sunday 3rd April to RSPB St Aidan's where there is a good chance you will hear skylarks singing and bitterns booming. If you are very lucky you might catch sight of a bittern, but you can expect to see marsh harrier, and possibly the first of this year's summer migrants in addition to a wide range of other birds. If you would like to come with us, please contact Tony Bryan, at This email address is being protected from spambots.
