Two of the elephant hawkmoth caterpillars have either been eaten or moved, only one full sized on a decimated fuchsia now which have moved into the mass of rosebay willowherb its other foodplant.

Aug 1st: Common Footman. The hawk moth caterpillars ar varied sizes now with two almost full size and browny. Last week put the small fuschia on the ground next to the two large ones hoping they would move on to it, they have, took some pics tonight. Am glad they only eat the leaves cos they are full of flowers and left untouched.

Mystery solved now that the caterpillar has grown (July 29th) my mate sent pic off Google and said its a Elephant Hawk Moth.
Today Aug 1st noticed there are three on the same fuchsia all of differing sizes, the largest is now 50mm and smallest about 30mm. The two fuchsia have always been in house till a month or so ago, the caterpillars are on same plant , the leaves are steadily getting eaten but they are flowering for first time this year. Am real chuffed!

July 20th to 22nd: Swallowtail in kitchen, got a few pics, years since last one.
July 25th: noticed a caterpillar on one of the fuchsia leaves, took a few pics and sent to my mate but neither of us sure what it is. It's a light green and about 38mm long with a red/black horn at back, it has a lightish yellow line going full length and it has two "eyes" on one side of body. I've checked three guides which only have about 50 in but none are exactly like it. HELP!
