That's a shame, but thank you for taking the time to reply and also thanks to your wife for the additional detective work! It still sounds like an interesting spot and I will try to get out there next time I visit Red Hill.

From the bridge over the Bain, drive up towards the mast, but take the first left down a minor road until you see a public footpath sign ( it says 81 on the O.S. Map ) walk down the footpath and the Small Blues were all over by the side of the path. Also if you keep walking towards Donington there are some of the biggest ,we think, Northern Marsh Orchids we’ve ever seen.
