I visited the wood at 7 o'clock leaving just before 830 this morning. In a field adjacent to the wood was a flock of about 500 Fieldfares with 3 worming Buzzards and at least 400 Fallow Deer. About 20 Redwings were in the canopy at the edge of the wood.

I was really hoping for more spring migrants but I only noted 6 singing Chiffchaffs and 2 singing Blackcaps. The same northerly winds that are discouraging the winter thrushes to migrate must also be holding back the arrival of warblers.

Other highlights in the wood were two pairs of Nuthatches, 2 singing Treecreepers, 3 pairs of Marsh Tits and at least 5 Bullfinches on a beautiful spring morning.
