This morning Saturday an incredible site greeted me on getting out of bed and that was at least 47 lesser redpolls feeding frantically on the nyger seed. Their twittering was also good. No mealies but just one or two siskin competing for the seed

It pays to get up early sometimes. After bemoaning the lack of numbers of lesser redpoll this winter after seven years of success I now can say they are back. Yesterday I counted 32 on our little cherry tree and this morning (early) there has been 25 with countless others flying around. There has also been a mealy redpoll making brief visits from time to time in three of the last four days. Mind you if you get up early you also notice wood pigeons everywhere just waiting for the opportunity to raid those feeders
