Pochard count up to eight at dusk this evening - all drakes. It’s said to be a species in decline so I’m making the most of seeing them while I can. ( I wish I had done with turtle doves, cuckoos, corn buntings and spotted flycatchers.)

Also a single goldeneye.

Five g-c grebes (as yesterday)

C 20 tufted duck, almost all of them drakes, this evening

Pochard are (in my recent experience) uncommon visitors, but the three drakes of yesterday had risen to four today.

The four gc grebes had increased to five.

There was also a noisy 'parliament' of 50-60 magpies
