jim there could easily been 3 birds or more but i only saw a single bird and would not have seen that if it hadn't turned and banked, after turning it disappeared into the evening haze. it would not go far because they rely when getting high on thermals which as night approached they were in short supply, i did here of a black stork sighting earlier on this year but the bird was to far to get any colour on it in the fading light. terry whalin

I was just speculating that (if it was a crane) your bird was part of a movement of cranes which later included the three Rasen birds. Perhaps not very likely but I shall watch out for other crane sightings. Incidentally, I once saw one land in a field outside Doncaster while I was on a train - my best ever sighting through a train window.

well jim i only saw a single bird drifting and banking in circles it could have gone in any direction but not far as it was very close to dusk. there easily could have been more than one bird, very high and distant, herons do not get up like that but storks and cranes do when moving distance. terry whalin

Interesting that three cranes were reported (on Twitter) flying east over Market Rosen this morning.

very large flat winged bird circling north of humberston high up and distant 20.00hrs bigger than a heron wings not cowled drifting and banking northwards. my thoughts possible crane or stork. no bins with me just on my way for a quick pint. think it would come down somewhere between east of hull to patringham area. i will watch sightings tomorrow. terry whalin
