I saw at least 6 marsh tits today at the feeding station on the corner of the road at Neville Wood. No nuthatches visited the feeding station while I was there. The whooper swans were well scattered in the field. They were very difficult to count in appalling light and driving rain about mid day. I didn't feel inclined to get out of the car

HI Russell
I'm sure you are correct - yet to see the photos that my partner took. It was a bit too busy for them to really settle - your photo is great.
Thank you
Jacquie

Hi Jacqui
Marsh Tits are more likely as they are seen regularly at the wood. They can be very obliging. Image of one of them attached.

Yesterday afternoon - 1st January - two separate herds of Whoopers now on Nocton Fen - at least 93 including first year ones. Two smaller flocks of mute swans nearer road - one in front of nearest Whoopers - these held about 16 between them.
On edge of Nocton Wood - nuthatches, blue tits, great tits, coal tits, pair of willow tits - (almost 100% but could not see bill well), chaffinch, blackbirds, robin.
The blue tits' behaviour just before a sparrowhawk visited the stump where there was seed to feed on was interesting compared to how they reacted to dogs and people.
Before I saw the sparrowhawk they flew off in a straight line and all in the same direction to some distance rather than the usual scatter.
