I returned to Linwood Warren at 1pm today and there were 5 Spotted Flycatchers hawking over the heather near the main entrance from the Scots Pines. A large mixed Tit/Warbler flock of some 60 birds were passing through the birches on the south side of the heath. They included Treecreeper, Willow Warbler, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Long-tailed Tit, Coal Tit, Goldcrest and Nuthatch. In addition a Great Spotted Woodpecker and a fly-over Rasen were also seen. I had a walk round an returned an hour later and all but the Flycatchers had gone!

Good to know the Spotted Fly's are still around, they are rarely reported on here nowadays, my friend Freddy will be happy at hearing this. It's years since I saw any!
Would have thought it was worth a mention on the Latest News bulletin.
Regards
John

Flycatchers, Swallows and Chiffchaffs was created by Stuart Britton
I went for a walk around Linwood Warren this afternoon. There was a minimum of 8 Spotted Flycatchers hawking on the edge of the heath by the main entrance. Very little else about in the heat apart from a juvenile Buzzard, 1 Blackbird and a Jay. On the way back there were about 60 Swallows on the wires and in the trees between the Golf Course and the Racecourse - by far the most I have seen this year. Yesterday I was ringing at Occupation Lane and caught 42 birds of 13 species including 6 Robins and 13 juvenile Chiffchaffs - this session was put on Birdtrack.
