I had never seen avocets in Cleethorpes until this evening when I watched two feeding on the edge of a pool on the saltmarsh. There was a mixed flock of 100+ black-tailed godwit and knot on the sandflats near the pier.
At 5.30pm, a cuckoo flew from the sea buckthorn on the fringe of the outer beach over the saltmarsh to a tree on the site of the former Pleasure Island theme park.
