Phil Espin has got to the bottom of the Ruddy Duck mystery. Apparently someone on Sunday putting old records into Birdtrack from the early 1990's failed to check the date before pressing submit. The 'news' was then picked up from Birdtrack by the news services and appeared on Birdguides. Therefor all the hopefuls who turned up at Covenham on Monday were 30 years too late! The County Recorder, Phil Hyde, needs any records of Ruddy Duck that may be out there to try and establish the last Lincs record.

It was simply that if it had been correct DEFRA would have arranged to have it shot without any doubt. We do not have the right to kill creatures just because they are in the wronp place.

Maybe one from a private collection flew the coop and went to Covenham for change of scenery.

I may be a little naive but why should there be a request that the entry re a Ruddy Duck be removed from the Forum?  I know their status in the UK but I always thought sharing information is what birders want?

There was an unconfirmed report of a Rudy Duck on Birdguides on Sunday, but several people went to look for it on Monday and there was no sign.
