A late morning visit to site found the following present:

Avocet    6 - all on one of the islands in the lagoon
Black-headed Gull    13 - nine on the "Field" scrapes and four on the lagoon
Buzzard    2 - both seen flying over the site
Carrion Crow    2
Cetti's Warbler    1 - heard singing from scrub in the far corner of the site, adjacent to the railway track.
Chiffchaff    1 - heard singing from trees near the car park.
Common Sandpiper    1 - feeding on the "Field" scrapes
Cormorant    1 - on one of the islands in the lagoon
Curlew    10 - flock flew onto the "Field" scrapes
Gadwall    4 - all on the "Field" scrapes
Grey Heron    1 - on the "Field" scrapes
Greylag Goose    7 - two on the lagoon and five on the "Field" scrapes
Herring Gull    37 - one on the "Pylon" scrapes and thirty six on the lagoon
Kestrel    1 - hunting over the site
Lapwing    7 - scattered around the site
Lesser Black-back Gull    7 - all on the lagoon
Little Egret    4 - scattered around the site
Little Grebe    1 - on the "Field" scrapes
Little Ringed Plover    4 - one on the "Field" scrapes and three on the "Pylon" scrapes
Magpie    2
Mallard    6 - one on the "Field" scrapes and five on the "Pylon" scrapes
Marsh Harrier    1 - female seen hunting over the site
Mute Swan    2 - one on the "Field" scrapes and one on the lagoon
Oystercatcher    1 - seen on the "Field" scrapes
Pheasant    1
Pied Wagtail    2
Redshank    4 - all on the "Pylon" scrapes
Reed Bunting    2 - seen along the path to the hide
Shelduck    4 - two on the "Field" scrapes and two on the "Pylon" scrapes

23rd March
Weather: Sunny with showers, strong NW wind, cold
Time on site: 12:15 - 14:30

A couple of hours onsite this afternoon found the following present:

Black-headed Gull    8 - all on the lagoon
Buzzard    2 - perched on fence posts along the path to the hide
Canada Goose    2 - both on the "Field scrapes"
Carrion Crow    3
Chaffinch    1 
Common Sandpiper    1 - feeding along the lagoon shore.
Cormorant    6 - all on islands in the lagoon
Curlew    28 - flock flew onto site and landed to feed on the "Field scrapes" area
Gadwall    6 - all on the "Field scrapes"
Goldeneye    1 - drake seen on the lagoon
Goosander    1 - drake seen on the lagoon
Grey Heron    1 - on the "Pylon scrapes"
Greylag Goose    6 - one on the "Pylon scrapes" and five on the "Field scrapes"
Herring Gull    35 - all on the lagoon
Lapwing    11 - various locations around the site
Lesser Black-back Gull    4 - all on the lagoon
Little Egret    2 - one on the "Field scrapes", the other on the "Pylon scrapes"
Little Grebe    1 - on the lagoon
Little Ringed Plover    2 - both on the "Field scrapes"
Magpie    1
Mallard    8 - six on the "Field scrapes" and two on the "Pylon scrapes"
Meadow Pipit    1
Mute Swan    2 - both on the "Hide scrapes"
Oystercatcher    1 - feeding on the lagoon shore

Roe Deer    2 - seen sheltering out of the wind in the lee of the hedge that forms the site boundary along the outer edge of the "Pylon scrapes" area.
 

10th February
Weather: Mist with sunny intervals, cool, SE breeze
Time on site: 12:45 - 14:45

Noted during my visit to site this afternoon were the following:

Black-headed Gull    5 - all on the lagoon
Buzzard    1 - perched on a fence post at the side of the path to the hide
Canada Goose    33 - all on the "Field" scrapes
Carrion Crow    2
Cormorant    3 - all on the lagoon
Gadwall    12 - all on the lagoon
Goldfinch    1
Great Black-backed Gull    3 - one on the "Field" scrapes and two on the lagoon
Green Sandpiper    1 - seen feeding around the "Pylon" scrapes
Grey Heron    1 - hunting along the ditch that runs alongside the path to the hide
Greylag Goose    2 - with the Canada Geese on the "Field" scrapes
Herring Gull    50 - all on the lagoon bank.
Lapwing    614 - sixty-four on the "Field" scrapes and five hundred and fifty on the exposed tops of the islands in the lagoon. This is my highest count of this species on site to date.
Little Egret    2 - one on the "Pylon" scrapes and one on the "Field" scrapes
Mallard    20 - twelve on the "Field" scrapes and eight on the "Pylon" scrapes
Marsh Harrier    1 - flew over the site, heading towards Immingham Docks.
Moorhen    1 - in the ditch next to the car park
Mute Swan    4 - two on the "Field" scrapes and two on the "Pylon" scrapes
Pheasant    1
Redshank    2 - both on the "Pylon" scrapes
Shoveler    11 - all on the "Field" scrapes
Skylark    1
Song Thrush    1 - heard singing from the trees next to the car park
Starling    75 - perched on power lines that run over the "Hide" scrapes
Stonechat    1 - perched on a fence post alongside the path to the hide
Teal    55 - Fifty-one on the "Field" scrapes and four on the "Pylon" scrapes
Tufted Duck    4 - all on the lagoon
Wigeon    56 - Forty on the "Pylon" scrapes, twelve on the "Field" scrapes and nine on the lagoon
Roe Deer    2 - both seen grazing on the "Field" scrapes area of the site.

 

28th January
Weather: Sunny, cool, S wind
Time on site: 09:15 - 11:35

My first visit to site of 2024 found the following present:

Black-headed Gull    6 - all on the lagoon.
Blackbird    1
Buzzard    1 - perched on a fence post at the back of the site, beyond the lagoon.
Carrion Crow    5
Common Gull    2 - both on the lagoon.
Cormorant    2 - both on the lagoon.
Curlew    4 - all feeding on the "Field scrapes" area of the site.
Gadwall    6 - four on the lagoon and two on the "Field Scrapes"
Green Sandpiper    1 - feeding around the "Pylon scrapes".
Greylag Goose    10 - five on the "Field scrapes, two on the "Pylon scrapes" and three on the lagoon.
Herring Gull    65 - all on the lagoon.
Kestrel    1 - seen hunting over the "Pylon scrapes" area of site
Lapwing    11 - all on the "Field scrapes" area site.
Little Egret    3 - one in the ditch by the car park and two on the "Field scrapes"
Magpie    1
Mallard    8 - six on the "Pylon scrapes" and two on the "Field scrapes"
Mute Swan    5 - two on the "Pylon scrapes" and three on the "Field scrapes".
