Estimated count ??? - slightly better than a large flock
Sometimes you can divide the flock up in to a small number and then multiply them by how many times you think that count goes in to your flock. Again not reliable but better that the large flock
Agreed that 64379 Red Knot at Snettisham seems laughable but who are we to argue with c65000 if we were not there

Hmmm!
How do you count them Chris?
I often wonder how some people can be so exact in their counts.. 173... 432..etc.. all exacting numbers, not a hint of rounding up or guesstimates. I can understand static, grounded birds counts, but not when they're air born. Is there a method you guys use?

I honestly don't know how you can count anything that is 'murmurating' as it were. I too was at Cleethorpes this morning with the high tide, and apart from 4 Guillemots up near the yacht club, everything else was a constant shapeshifting blur.

Thanks for the reminder, Chris. Point noted and acknowledged. In my defence, sometimes it's tricky - especially if they're in flight -as with this mixed flock of waders over Cleethorpes beach this morning.

It would be nice to have numbers associated with your reports Jim
