Shoveler on ice was created by Jim Wright
This afternoon’s most active waterbird on the semi-frozen lake in Cleethorpes Country Park was a shoveler - the first I have seen here. Apart from a few ventures on to ice, it was feeding (or attempting to feed) almost non-stop. Also present were 300-plus b-h gulls - probably the largest gathering I have seen at this site.

Down the road at the boating lake, there was nothing of note except for a solitary fieldfare, trying to find berries (where there were none) on cotoneaster shrubs.
