Noon today under a hot sun was not the best time to visit Covenham.

Best birds on my 20-minute attendance were red kite soaring over harvested cereal field, juvenile ringed/ little ringed plover, common tern perched on one of the piers near the clubhouse and 20 yellow wagtails, one of which decided to give grief to a common sandpiper which flew off.

Up to a dozen juvenile pied wagtails wer conspicuous as was a gull with yellow legs (can anyone advise if it is a yellow-legged or a common?)

Attached are a few record shots.

Time was when there used to be plenty of algae on the banks which attracted insects and birds. Over the past couple of years, it seems to have become less evident - are Anglian Water purging it chemically? Anyone know?
