Hi Jim. Some birding friends of mine told me some ten or more years ago that they had seen green woodpecker in the area of the old Al Qaida training camp at the bottom of South Sea Lane, Fitties end, on more than one occasion. On my walks and bike rides along there I always kept an eye out for them, but never once found one. First swift over my house this year at 9 o'clock.

Hi Jim, interesting sighting of Green Woodpecker near Wilton Rd.
I reported a GW along Buck Beck on 04:10:2021, only about 500metres from Wilton Rd
Maybe same one, or hopefully more.
The only other siting I’ve had in N E Lincs was in Weelsby Woods many years ago, and one near Hatcliffe approx 10 years ago.

I had a not dissimilar experience this morning when a green woodpecker flew almost directly overhead and briefly settled on the trunk of a tree on the edge of the Wilton Road industrial estate in Humberston. It spent less than a minute there before flying off.
As far as I am aware, green woodpeckers are not often seen/ heard in Cleethorpes/ Humberston, and this was a patch first for me.
Anyone know what their status is in North East Lincolnshire?
( I saw my first Cleethorpes swift of 2022 yesterday afternoon. In the morning, near Tetney Lock, I saw a female whinchat and saw/heard singing a corn bunting. Swallows were also conspicuous. No luck, though, with grasshopper warbler - so far I haven't heard/ seen one this year.)

Cleethorpes Kingfisher was created by Neil Kurz
Stepped out of my kitchen onto the patio yesterday, 8th, at 12 noon to see if there were any returning swifts about and as I looked up, a kingfisher flew over in a NW direction,
going like the clappers! I don't have to point out what a rare sighting this is over a town garden. Fabulous! Bet the neighbours wondered what on earth all the excitement was about.
I'm still buzzing!
Keep yer eyes peeled, Max lol
