Perhaps North Somercotes is on some sort of wryneck ancestral migration route dating back hundreds of thousands of years. It would be interesting to know the breeding destination of the UK's spring sightings. Presumably they fly back to the continent - but to which country?

Couldn't believe it this afternoon when Jackie spotted a Wryneck on the back lawn! Phoned Mark Johnson and he came and took his usual excellent photos. Apparently there has been a big fall of these remarkable birds on the East coast today.
