A Blackcap singing in my garden this morning prompted me to visit Callan's Lane Wood, three miles away. I was rewarded by my first singing Willow Warbler of the year, several Blackcaps and lots of Chiffchaffs. Two Tawny Owls were hooting during my 3 hour morning visit. Other highlights of 31 species encountered included 2 pairs of Marsh Tits, 3 Nuthatches, 8 GS and 3 Green Woodpeckers and some very vocal Ravens. Also an incredible count of at least 1,250 Fallow Deer in the fields behind the wood.
