I was in hide a few years ago with another chap who was a local and during our chat he said that Sargent lived in the big house and he got a JCB and had the scrapes dug cos he was interested in birding and would be able to view the scrapes from the house. Am sure he said the Mr Sargent was related to the furniture man, cos i asked if he meant the ice cream man and he said no. This guy at that time went to the hide most days and had mentioned to Mr Sargent that it was positioned in the wrong place but nothing was ever done. All the times myself and my mates went in all we could see was the we wood facing north, it was impossible to see east or west without straining your neck.

When I was doing WeBS at MSQ someone told me that a well known birder was doing Nebraska Wetlands so maybe he knows if he still does it. All it needs is some strong people or a JCB to move it round and it would be perfect! Looking forward to going once June gets out way.

Regards

Max

Right I can't remember that - So there is only the guy at the house near the reserve that may be able to help. Now I think on he did tell me it took longer to landscapre etc as the ground was rock hard.

Hi Steve, I seem to remember a long time ago that there was a sign at the reserve stating who helped with the funding.

It was made as a memorial to Mr Sargent who owned the furniture shop in Kirton, it was in his Will, so I don't know whether it was funded - Years ago I spoke to a guy who lives in the last house before the reserve start, I reckon he was a relative.
