Reasonably up to date news is available to to all users of the Forum by clicking on Home and then "Click here for the latest bird news". I spend hours a week compiling this report taking information from any source I find it. Obviously some records do get missed and apologise for that
I tend to report sightings that are posted on the Forum infrequently as I really don't see the point of repeating information twice in the same location. If you post it is there for all to see but unfortunately just like my latest news section it isn't instantaneous as is a posting on Social Media
I like the information I use to be current and that is why my main sources are Facebook, Twitter and What's App. I do need a specific location in Lincolnshire and a total even if it is an estimate. If you see 5000 Red Knot on the mud-flats somewhere say 5000 Knot on such and such beach. I cannot second guess you. All this information finishes up in database consisting of well over 300000 records. This among other things, goes to the compliment of the Annual Report which is why your records, locations and numbers are vitally important

And including me, I don't even have an iPhone yet, so the forum is pretty much the only option open for me! Chris is right though it's still easy to keep up with sightings from the South of the county on "home" and "sightings"

Stuart is right - it would be greatly to the benefit of the Forum if sightings were reported from a wider area of the county.
Trouble is that, in its current form, our website is not as user-friendly (especially for iphone posters) asTwitter which seems to be the preferred choice for postings (though it, too, has its shortcomings).
Providing added competition to our Forum, there are also various private Whatsapp groups within specific areas of the county.
Sadly, this diversity of social media options tends to work to the disadvantage of the Forum and to those older members (including me) not fully up to speed with changing technology.

That's interesting Chris - the contributions to the Forum and other methods of reporting have certainly moved on in the past 2 or 3 years.

Hi Stuart,
In contrast, the latest bird news page (click top right menu - click sightings - then click the link halfway down the page), it’s usually the southern half of Lincs that provides the majority of sightings - showing only a few from the south post on this forum, obviously preferring other methods for their reporting.
regards
Chris

Thanks, Alan. I'm of an age when North and NE Lincs hadn't been invented - I should have said North Lindsey!
