I have often wondered that Jim.
For a few days a couple of weeks ago, there were at least a dozen Curlew (I was driving past so couldn’t count accurately!) on the fields next to Healing Academy.

I wonder to what extent (if any) pupils and staff have any awareness of the presence of these magnificent and mysterious birds just on the other side of the classroom windows.

Interesting thought, Jon. You can put Beacon Academy, Cleethorpes on the list.
I’ve reported a few times of curlew there. Just before dusk, usually around 40/50+.
Best viewed from the main road, Humberston Rd., but park in Brian Ave. if driving to there.
Never seen more than the odd one or two on Cleethorpes Academy, Taylor’s Ave. though.

I have regularly seen Curlew feeding on The Academy Grimsby (TAG)  playing field on Westwood Ho. There were approx 30 on there when I drove past earlier this week.
I wonder how many other school fields / recreation grounds in the Grimsby and Cleethorpes area serve as feeding grounds for this species?

Regards

Jon

School curlew was created by Jim Wright
Curlew in murky light this afternoon on playing field at Signhills Primary in Cleethorpes.

Two Gadwall and two teal were the best duck species on the nearby country park lake.
