The gadwall did disappear for a few days but there were three (a drake and two ducks) yesterday afternoon.

The GSW was a good sighting.I managed a single jay and nine curlew, but birds were generally few or not making themselves conspicuous (probably both).

The Gadwall seem to have gone from the Country Park, but I've seen a Great Spotted Woodpecker twice this week.

 Country park lake this afternoon:
Heron 1
Coot (uncounted)
Moorhen 2
Gadwall 2
Tufted  duck 5
Mallard 11
Little grebe 2
Mute swan 2
Cormorant 6

At the nearby boating lake, there were 24 tufted duck amongst the ornamental waterfowl. Apart from one day last month when there were five, I haven’t seen any pochard here so far this autumn/winter.
For the past week or so, the trees on one of the lake islands has been providing a safe refuge for a jay ( a locally scarce species) which makes occasional forays into the tough grass on the adjacent country park to forage for food.
