Singing Blackcap

When the sun came out after light rain yesterday morning, I was surprised to hear a Blackcap singing in the garden. We have a few over-wintering in the village but I have not heard one sing at this time of year. It was not quite the full on song that we expect to hear when our breeding birds return; more muted.
Coincidentally I relocated a Chiffchaff later that day in the same location in Rippingale Fen as last week, but it was not singing today. 11 Tree Sparrows and 8 Fieldfares were the other highlights in the fen.
