I caught up with same bird over the w/e. This time my view was front-on. Russell's plainly right - the most obvious common buzzard that ever flew the planet.

But it's a peculiar bird. It doesn't seem to do much flying. It perches up for long spells and utters a whole range of screams, shrieks and howls - something like a cross between a wounded mammal and the sound you might hear coming from an aviary of macaws/ parrots.

I've never heard it 'mewing' like a typical buzzard.

Thanks Russell. I had it down as a buzzard until It began its persistent screeching call - nothing like the familar ‘mewing’. Do buzzards have a varied repertoire?

Humberston raptor query

Can anyone help me out, please, on the ID of this raptor present yesterday and today in woodland off South Sea Lane, Humberston?

Based on the loud and persistent screeching call and white base to the tail, I have it down as a goshawk.

However, this is a species I an unfamiliar with so any clarification would be mega-welcome.

Thanks
