Crows in a trance was created by Jim Wright
Can anyone explain why corvids sometimes go into a Zen-like trance? I have seen it in magpies and today in two open-billed carrion crows. For at least 15 minutes, they were motionless apart from blinking eyes. When they came out of the trance, at different times, they preened. Was it something they ate or drank? Or perhaps something in the air?
