THE house sparrow is the most abundant visitor to Lincolnshire gardens.

That's according to data from the RSPB Garden Birdwatch count which was carried out over the weekend January 25-27 this year.

The blackbird,in third place, was seen in more gardens (90.3 per cent) than the house sparrow (76.3 per cent) but in fewer numbers.

At the corresponding period last year, the brambling was conspicuous in many county gardens, but this year none appears to have been recorded over that particular weekend.
