Lesser Spotted Woodpecker

Although my neighbour has seen it sporadically, I have not seen or heard this the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker since last May. However late yesterday afternoon i heard it calling and eventually located it high up in some trees bordering a mature garden 200 yards from my home. Despite all the bad news, yesterday was a good bird day starting with the biggest flock of Whooper Swans I have ever seen in Lincolnshire on the fen just on the Lincoln side of Bardney. Unfortunately due to traffic i could not stop but i would estimate that the flock was 500 birds. After work I visited Grimsby and got views - not particularly good views of the Black-throated Thrush.

Today a reminder that despite all the bad news spring has arrived with a singing Chffchaff at Grange Farm, Rippingale fen and frogs spawning in one of my garden ponds.

Best wishes and stay safe everyone.

Ian
